About
Talberon Games is a one-man shop by me: Talberon! I'm an indie dev from Nova Scotia, Canada, and I love to make games that have a focus on mechanical depth, bright colours, player skill and competition. I started experiementing with making games as a kid with RPG Maker on the PS1, and a fairly niche online game platform for making pixel art games called BYOND, which is also where I was first introduced to pixel art and simple scripting. These days I am a full-stack software developer (web and mobile, mostly) during the day, and a passionate solo indie in my time off; giving myself the opportunity to explore my other creative interests like art, music and game design. I work primarily with Monogame, a .NET open-source framework (and successor to Microsoft's XNA framework), so I am also building custom engines for my games along with the art and music! It is a ton of work, but I enjoy having the ability to control every aspect of game dev! Steelbreakers is inspired by action adventure games that encourage creative use of unique items to overcome challenges, and aspires to combine that style of game with a competitive party game where players can wade through the chaos and emerge victorious. It is also Talberon's first action game, and was a good opportunity to learn what is involved to make a game in this style before exploring new possibilities in the space. Superstar Strategy is a re-imagining of Talberon's first game, Sol Standard, after gaining experience making that game as well as Steelbreakers. Having enjoyed similar tactics games growing up, he wanted to make a game that could provide compelling tactical combat while also allowing for the strategy and expression he experienced when playing a tabletop wargame or customizable card game, while reducing the heavy-handedness of randomness inherent to those genres. Superstar Strategy is designed to give players enough information to make informed choices, while adding just enough randomness to make taking risks valuable without diluting the agency of the player.
